The Payment Card Industry (PCI) is a security council which consists of every major credit card brand. The 5 major credit card brands are: Visa, Discover Card, JCB, Master Card, and American Express.
This security council is responsible for ensuring all financial transactions that occur with the use of a credit card or a debit card are securely protected. USU must show the PCI Security Council that we are compliant with the security requirements that set forth by this counsel. Failure to comply with the security standards could place our ability to accept credit cards in jeopardy.
This security council sets requirements that applies to the credit card machine, and the room they are located in, and to anyone who comes in contact with any part of a credit card transaction. The strictest of security requirements applies to all online purchases, purchases made at a cash register, and in all concession stands just to name a few.
Due to the high integrity and acceptance of major credit card brands, many other uses for credit cards have been discovered and used. Some of these uses are joining a group or society which issues a membership, getting rewards, even subscribing to free sites.
Anytime you get out your credit card or debit card, think PCI.
